Srinagar, Nov 07 (KNO): Gulmarg will host the first-ever Gulmarg 12K Run on November 29, bringing together runners from across Kashmir for a sporting event amid the picturesque surroundings of the Gulmarg Bowl. In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the organisers said the event is expected to witness the participation of around 120 athletes and will be flagged off from Pine Palace Resort, Gulmarg, at 9:00 AM. The run will be conducted along the Gulmarg Bowl Road and is being supported by the Gulmarg Development Authority, with M&Co and Pine Palace Resort Gulmarg backing the initiative. One of the organisers said the event aims to encourage young people to embrace running, adopt healthier lifestyles and contribute towards building a fitter and drug-free society. “The objective is to encourage young people to embrace running, adopt healthier lifestyles and contribute towards building a fitter, more active and drug-free society,” the organiser said. The proposed route will feature a loop of approximately six kilometres or more, with participants completing two laps to cover the 12-kilometre-plus distance. The final route and distance will be confirmed after a technical assessment and consultations with the concerned authorities. The organisers said the event also aims to promote Gulmarg as a year-round destination for outdoor recreation, fitness tourism and sporting activities, while adding a new attraction ahead of the winter tourism season. Registration for the event will open shortly. The competition will be held in the Open Senior Men's category, with participation limited to 120 runners. All participants will receive finisher medals, while cash prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers. The organisers said the initiative is part of efforts to strengthen Kashmir's growing running culture and promote fitness through community-based sporting events—(KNO)
